Art School Lebensborn

Background

From my experiences, many art students are blind to the problems of society insulated within their creative bubbles, yet on occasion they feel the need to pass comment on or support causes, which will in effect perpetuate the social problems their goodwill and naivety attempts to alleviate.

From my point of view the only way to solve a problem is to stand on your own two feet, with this in mind the cessation of charity work and its biased institutions, as we know it is the only answer to solving poverty etc. Not throwing money at glamorised causes that do little to solve the problem

Specifically requirements of art courses also make it difficult for working class people to attend due to the money involved, hence the middle/upper class attitude of many of the students involved (and hence my reference/comparison to Lebensborn- the Nazi’s aristocratic (Aryan!?) breeding plan). This creates a situation where students with money can afford to take the bigger risks no matter how shit their work and ideas. In my experience this attitude promotes dominant views of what is/isn’t art thereby discrediting work that pushes boundaries in ways which are unsuitable for the institution to promote. I also have a personal beef as why as an academic am I looked down on with scorn for not doing something more creative?

The lyrics also stand as opposition to the institutions and media that are responsible for our perceptions of the world, in this instance the “Art School Lebensborn” of the title whereby one pure perspective is prioritised over others for no reason other than it benefits those behind it. We have a responsibility to make our own independent decisions rather than accept someone else’s view without looking at the motivations behind it. Although I choose the arts this standard of thinking is prevalent throughout (Eurocentric) education in its maintenance of the academic and subsequent societal status quo.

Lyrics

Conformist social dialect ~ Creates obese feeding frenzy
Subdue in depressive medium ~ Yet accentuated beyond common meaning
Primal code suffocated in to artistic balance ~ Obsessive obedience of colour co ordination
Subversion of common detail ~ Subservient denial

Façade of expression leads to regression
Tragedy of fashion blinding judgement
For who returns your gaze in the mirror

Envy and jealousy primal catalysing factors
-Lack of satisfaction leads to the casting of aspersion
Yet beyond their pretension
Resides a cold view bound by steel
For I haven’t even finished the veneer
Yet you look on me as last seasons fashion

Remember I can burn the façade ~ And watch the shallow ashes drift on the wind
A lifetime spent in search of awakening ~ When a bullet could answer it sooner

Which method to exterminate ~ Mustn’t loose sight close the gaps
Overbearing genocidal urge ~ Smacks with irony
For how does one feel remorse ~ For the end of substandard life
The acceptance of the fool ~ Exempt from normal “restriction”
For in your death throe lurch ~ Know that I instigate your execution

For the last your protruding eyes see ~ The splintered stump of my ball point
Plied free from bone ~ And with your blood dripping from its end

I sign my name on flesh canvas

In a nutshell: Critiquing the people that buy into the idea of truth, in this case art, as represented by institutions and the media and the social cost that arises from such assumptions.
